Pressurizer installed at Akkuyu NPP Power Unit NO. 1
October 27, 2022, Büyükeceli, Mersin Province, Turkey – The pressurizer, a main primary-circuit component of the reactor plant, was installed in the reactor building of the Unit No. 1 at the Akkuyu NPP Construction Site. The pressurizer is designed to generate and maintain pressure in the primary circuit in various modes.
The pressurizer is directly engaged in the first stage of system flushing onto the reactor vessel, i.e. flushing of the installed pipelines of the safety and normal-operation systems which are connected to the reactor. The equipment installation followed installation works on special embedded parts, as well as concrete-pouring and installation of supports onto such embedded parts.
"Installation of the pressurizer into the design position is another important stage of works on the Power Unit No. 1 of Akkuyu NPP. The pressurizer was installed using the Open Top technology, i.e. through the open top of the reactor building. Following installation of the 6th tier of the inner compartment, the reactor building dome will be the only thing we have to install. By doing so, we will actually complete construction-and-installation works and commence the equipment pre-commissioning stage," noted Sergei Butckikh, First Deputy Chief Executive Officer of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC and Director of the NPP under Construction.
The pressurizer is 12.91-meter high, has 3.33-meter diameter, and weighs 187.4 tons.
Works on closing the sealed area, start of flushing onto the reactor vessel and commissioning of the polar crane are scheduled for the Power Unit No. 1 up to the end of 2022.
