AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC supports educational institutions of Gulnar district
November 2, 2021, Gulnar, Mersin Province, Turkey. — On the occasion of the Republic Day of Turkey, AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC donated 1.5 mln Turkish Lira to vocational colleges of Gulnar District and also donated 181 tablet computers to Gulnar District Education Directorate to be distributed among students of the district's elementary schools. The company provides support for the educational institutions located in the Akkuyu NPP construction area on a regular basis.
A charity certificate was donated at the ceremony held in the Gulnar District Government Building. The certificate was donated to Yunus Emre Bayraklı, Gulnar District Governor, by Alexei Frolov, Managing Director for GR and International Cooperation of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC. Yunus Emre Bayraklı handed Alexei Frolov an appreciation plaque in recognition of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC's contributions to support Gulnar's educational institutions. The ceremony was also participated by Afsin Burak Bostanci, Head of the General Directorate for Nuclear Power and International Projects under the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources; Alpaslan Unuvar, Gulnar Mayor; Huseyin Kadim, Head of Gulnar District Education Directorate; as well as Tevfik Kalemci, Head of the Regional Office of the Justice and Development Party.
The ceremony participants also visited Saime Naim Fund elementary school located in Gulnar, where they met with the school's management representatives and students. The students presented the guests their art performances prepared for the Republic Day of Turkey, which was followed by donation of tablet computers from AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC to the students.
Anastasiya Zoteeva, Chief Executive Officer of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, commented on the charity initiative: "Support for education in the Akkuyu NPP construction area is one of priorities of our company's activities. Akkuyu NPP Construction site is currently the largest employer in Gulnar, and there is a possibility that graduates from local schools and colleges would like to choose a profession related to the nuclear power, receive specialized education and be employed at construction and operation of the plant. That is why it is crucial for us that the District's educational institutions are equipped with all necessary items, while children enjoy studying and strive to achieve the highest goals".
The money funds of 1.5 mln. Turkish Lira transferred to Gulnar District Education Directorate are earmarked for repair and technical equipment of vocational colleges of Gulnar District.
AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC actively participates in social activities of the Akkuyu NPP construction area. The Company implements charity and environmental initiatives and also hold cultural and entertainment events aimed at local community on a regular basis.
