AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Participates in Teknofest 2022

September 9, 2022, Samsun, Turkey. – AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC became a partner of the Fifth International Aviation, Aerospace and Technology Festival TEKNOFEST, the largest technology festival in Turkey organized by the Turkish Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation) under the patronage of the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey. The exhibition was held from August 30 to September 4, 2022 at Çarşamba Airport, Samsun Province. More than 100 government agencies, corporate sponsors and universities in Turkey were engaged in its organization.

An exhibition booth of the AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC was open during all six days of the festival. This year the company prepared an exciting and rich program for the exhibition visitors, which was aimed at informing the general audience on the Akkuyu NPP Construction Project in Turkey, nuclear power and nuclear technologies. The booth guestskeenly familiarized themselves with the "NPP with VVER-1200 Technology", an augmented-reality mobile application; using the application, it was possible to see an interactive 3D model of the Akkuyu NPP with visualization of the main facilities and equipment components of the nuclear power plant, as well as learn about the principles of NPP operation.

An interactive quiz, which was aimed specifically at children and teenagers and included questions about nuclear power and environment, was presented at the booth. The quiz questions were asked by Caretta Caretta turtle, an animated character. This is a representative of a rare species of sea turtle, whose conservation the AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC is actively involved in. The quiz participants who scored the highest number of points were awarded memorable souvenirs.

The booth also featured a lecture area where young specialists of the AKKUYU NUCLEAR told visitors about the Akkuyu NPP Personnel Training Program, their work experience at the NPP Construction Site and the importance of nuclear power for Turkey's technological development. A video tour of the Akkuyu NPP Construction Site was broadcasted on a large screen, with the Turkish nuclear engineers, who received special education in Russia, as guides. Furthermore, the festival participants were offered a virtual tour – they could visit the Novovoronezh NPP-2, a reference plant for the Akkuyu NPP, online.

In the photo area next to the booth, visitors were photographed wearing reflective vests and helmets so that they could later receive a magnet with their image with the construction site of the first Turkish NPP as its background. The audience was particularly interested in the booth wall, which was designed as a drawing area: both children and adults enjoyed drawing and writing their wishes on the wall.

Denis Sezyomin, Director for Construction and Industrial Engineering with the AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, gave interviews to the central Turkish media, in which he talked about the construction of the Akkuyu NPP, the upcoming key events of the plant construction, and the project’s contribution into the social and economic development of Turkey and the region where the NPP is located.

The exhibition booth became the centre of negotiations and business meetings on the development of the nuclear industry in the Republic of Turkey. For instance, there was a meeting between the AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC management with the president and members of the 19 May University (Samsun, Turkey). Professor Yavuz Unal, the university’s president, expressed his interest in cooperation with the company in the areas of human resources training for the actively developing Turkish nuclear industry and the creation of conditions for implementing academic exchange programs with technical universities in Russia.

This year, the Teknofest in Samsun was attended by about 1,250M people. 600k+ people, including pupils, students and teams from all Turkish provinces and 107 countries, applied to participate in the festival’s contest program, which included 40 different areas.
