Annual Hanhikivi-1 Business Seminar held in St. Petersburg

The third Hanhikivi-1 Business Seminar for potential partners and contractors of the Hanhikivi-1 NPP construction project was held in St. Petersburg on 19-20 April 2018. It was organized by the Association of Finnish Nuclear Industry – FinNuclear. The first two seminars were held in Oulu (Finland) in 2016 and 2017.

The seminar gathered more than 70 Finnish business representatives interested in cooperation with companies involved in the construction of NPP Hanhikivi-1 in the Pyhajoki Municipality of the Northern Ostrobothnia Province in Finland.

Seminar participants also made a technical visit to Sosnovy Bor and Leningradskay-2 nuclear power plant – the reference project of the Hanhikivi-1 NPP.

Seminar agenda included presentations by Fennovoima – the Owner and future NPP Operator, RAOS Project – the General Supplier and JSC CONCERN TITAN-2 – General Contractor, as well as by the Russian National Association of Construction Engineering Consultants.

Seminar presentations and Q&A sessions focused on relevant to Hanhikivi-1 NPP construction project topics including safety culture, tendering and procurement procedures, models of efficient cooperation with sub-contractors, application of Russian and Finnish legislation in project implementation. Discussions mostly focused on the ways for Finnish companies to join the project and opportunities for business development.

Seminar participants were mostly interested in the schedule of construction works and upcoming tenders, special requirements to tender documentation and non-disclosure agreements, as well as procurement and payment procedures applied in Hanhikivi-1 NPP project management and operation.

Hanhikivi-1 NPP project

In December 2013, Fennovoima Oy and JSC REIN signed the EPC-contract to construct the Hanhikivi-1 NPP. JSC REIN is focusing on the management of Rosatom’s Build-Own-Operate projects as a shareholder in project companies. In spring 2014, Rosatom acquired 34% of Fennovoima shares.

In June 2015, Fennovoima applied for NPP construction license. Since 2015, RAOS Project – a daughter company of JSC REIN in Finland – operates as the General Supplier in the project.

The NPP construction project will be modified to meet the national safety requirements in Finland. Hanhikivi-1 NPP is planned to be launched in 2024.

JSC REIN:

Joint-stock company Rusatom Energy International (REIN) is a subsidiary of Rosatom State Corporation, established in 2011 to promote Russian nuclear technologies on the world market. Since May 2015, the company specializes in the management of foreign projects for the construction and operation of nuclear power plants on the terms of joining the shareholders of project companies. The Director General of JSC REIN since December 2016 is Anastasia Zoteeva.

For the implementation of the Akkuyu NPP project, the project company JSC AKKUYU NUCLEAR was established in 2010, which today is a 100% subsidiary of REIN.

RAOS Project Oy, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSC REIN, established in Finland in February 2015, is the General Supplier of the Hanhikivi-1 NPP.
